Bizarre messages sent from Facebook account of cop’s missing, estranged wife

Bizarre messages have been sent to friends of a woman who vanished after sending selfies with black eyes to an online support group.

Fears are growing for the estranged wife of a police officer who mysteriously vanished after posting a photo of herself with black eyes to an online domestic violence group.

Mary Colleen Haley, 32, was reported missing on December 16 — two days after she sent the disturbing selfie to Krissy Musallam, who runs a Facebook support group for domestic violence victims.

Ms Haley‘s husband William Scott, a retired West Virginia State Police officer who split from his wife earlier this year, was arrested for assault on December 11 after she filed a complaint but freed on bail the next day.

At around 2.30pm last Friday, Ms Haley sent Ms Musallam a message saying she had been “beaten pretty bad” by Mr Scott earlier that week. She followed it up with two selfies showing her with black eyes.

Ms Musallam advised her to go to a shelter but said Ms Haley responded with concerns authorities would not take her seriously, and grew increasingly worried when she was unable to reach her the following day.

On Saturday night — more than 24 hours after Ms Haley’s last contact, Ms Musallam began receiving a series of increasingly bizarre messages from Ms Haley’s account.

‘SHE FELL IN THE LAKE … SHE CAN’T SWIM’

The next day, Ms Musallam received a series of increasingly bizarre messages from Ms Haley’s account.

One, sent at 4.32pm last Saturday, stated “she is fine” but “unstable” and “in bed asleep”.

Though sent from Ms Haley’s account, the writer then identified himself as “Haley’s best friend, Steven Vaught” according to Fox News.

“(Haley) was talking about going swimming, but she can’t swim, so I’m not sure.”

The person then wrote: “(Haley’s) husband is a great police officer” and claimed her black eyes were not the result of him beating her up but of her having fallen “down steps acting crazy”.

When Ms Musallam threatened to ask authorities to carry out a welfare check, she was told Ms Haley would be sleeping the following day.

Hours later, she again messaged Ms Haley’s account, this time asking her if she was still married.

The domestic violence support group administrator claims she received the chilling response: “She always will be now.”

But Ms Musallam said the disturbing exchange didn’t end there. Later that evening, the messages from Ms Haley’s account became more rambling and dark.

“She fell in the lake”, one said. “She tried to kill her self (sic)”, said another.

They continued: “Rural Retreat Lake … she fell in … yes she killed herself. She can’t swim.”

Ms Haley’s friends Sheila and Steven Vaught — whose name was used by the author of the messages — confirmed she stayed with them before leaving for Florida on December 10 for a job interview.

Ms Vaught told Fox News Ms Haley “sounded fine” when she spoke to her last Friday morning but started to worry when she too started receiving disturbing, rambling messages from her Facebook account.

Ms Vaught and members of Ms Haley’s family, including her mother Libby Dickerson, reported her missing on Sunday.

Friends and relatives told CrimeOnline they believe Ms Haley’s account had been taken over by someone else.

It remains unclear whether Mr Vaught sent any of the messages or what his relationship was with Ms Haley’s husband Mr Scott.

“CrimeOnline also saw screenshots of additional Facebook message exchanges between Haley’s Facebook account and people believed to be friends of hers,” the site said.

“Those screenshots were shared in Facebook posts discussing Haley’s disappearance. In one exchange, the person communicating with Haley’s account appeared to accuse William Scott of taking over Haley’s account.

“The person sending messages from Haley’s account responded to that accusation with messages that read, ‘Find her body then buddy’ and “she might be dead”.

The hunt for Ms Haley continues.
