A man who allegedly assaulted a public safety officer was hit by a car as he fled the scene.

St John Ambulance NT operations manager Craig Garraway said the man suffered “many injuries” as a result of the crash at Palmerston’s Puma petrol station on Monday.

Mr Garraway said the man needed to be sedated so he could receive “life-saving treatment” before being taken to Royal Darwin Hospital about 5pm.
