Prince George's cheeky Wimbledon complaint

Prince William has been slammed for his blasé response to son Prince George’s discomfort at Wimbledon, where he was dressed in a suit and tie despite the heatwave.

Prince George was caught on camera complaining to his dad that it was “too hot”, while apparently struggling in his formal attire as temperatures soared.

Prince William replied: “Oh you’re hot, are you? It’s very warm today. It’ll be fine.”

His mother, the Duchess of Cambridge was also cavalier, telling the little prince to avoid sitting “in the bright sunshine.”

Royal writer Daniela Elser said the royal couple’s response proved Prince George’s childhood was over.

She said the House of Windsor was “still happily putting kids to work. Just ask Prince George”.

“No, ‘let’s take your jacket off’ or ‘how about loosening your tie?’ The expectation was obvious: maintaining a suitably polished image while on the job trumped whatever discomfort he might have been,” Ms Elser wrote in a piece for news.com.au

“Because let’s make no bones about this: George going to Wimbledon might have been a jolly (or a “treat” as Kate put it) for the boy but it was also very much work.”

“The Cambridge children might be growing up surrounded by ponies and Range Rovers and extended jaunts to Mustique but there is one thing they will always be denied to some degree: Choice.”

Royal expert Robert Jobson tweeted that while William and Catherine were being respectful of the All England Club’s formal dress code, nobody would have minded George wearing something less formal such as a polo shirt and chinos.

Other royal fans agreed, saying it was unfair to dress Prince George like a “min-adult” during a heatwave.

It came as Aussie hothead Nick Kyrgios repeatedly dropped the F-bomb during the men’s final – with Prince George looking shocked in the Royal Box as he watched his first-ever Wimbledon match.

A BBC commentator had to tell viewers after the incident yesterday afternoon: “Apologies for the language, it’s live sport, it’s tense”.

The foul language came after Kyrgios had lost a point on his serve before Djokovic went on to clinch his fourth Wimbledon title in a row.

He shouted up towards his girlfriend Costeen Hastzi and sister Halimah, complaining about their apparent lack of support and saying “Do you f***ing care at all?”

Kyrgios, due in court in Australia for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend, also yelled: “Just say something … is this not a big enough moment for you?” to his supporters.

The outburst was overheard by the Royal Box including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and heir to the throne Prince George.

Kyrgios was later heard mumbling “it’s a f***ing joke” after he was seemingly distracted on his first serve, before going on to double-fault.

The Aussie had demanded a second crack at his first serve, but had his request denied.

He was later fined £3,325 ($A5860) for “audible obscenity”.

That takes his total SW19 fines tally to a staggering £15,000 ($A26,000).

During his five-set first-round win over Brit Paul Jubb, Kyrgios admitted to spitting in the direction of a fan who was getting under his skin.

He was fined £8,211 for the incident.

Kyrgios then received a £3,200 fine for slamming the match officials during his fiery win over Stefanos Tsitsipas – who was also fined.

But he won £1,050,000 ($A1,850,000) as runner-up, with Djokovic scooping £2 million ($A3.52m).

Kyrgios had got off to the perfect start in his first-ever Grand Slam final.

He charged to the first set 6-4 as he looked to deny Djokovic his fourth-straight Wimbledon win but his meltdowns appeared to get the better of him in the end.

It comes as the tennis fan who Nick Kyrgios demanded be thrown out of Centre Court after he accused her of having “700 drinks” says she actually had just one Pimm’s and a rosé.

The 27-year-old Australian player was furious at Polish lawyer Ania Palus, 32, when she started to talk just as he was about to serve.

According to The Sun, Palus, who was ejected temporarily, said she’d only had two drinks and blamed her behaviour on the heat on Centre Court.

She said: “He always says the crowd is against him and I wanted to show we were for him, I wanted to encourage him.

“I only had one Pimm’s and one rosé.

“It’s the temperature for me, I had no hat. I’m really sorry.”

Kyrgios lashed out at the umpire in the third set, pointing out Palus who he thought was too drunk.

He told the umpire: “Why is she still here?

“She’s drunk out of her mind and speaking to me in the middle of a game.”

When asked to point her out, he said: “The one who looks like she’s had about 700 drinks.”

Palus was given a bottle of water and allowed back on court for the rest of the final.
