A FIRE has torn through a building and destroyed two businesses in Bowen Street in the suburb of Winnellie overnight

A FIRE has torn through a building and destroyed two businesses in Bowen Street in the suburb of Winnellie overnight.

The blaze was reported by a member of the public at around midnight before Northern Territory Police general duties units attended the scene and alerted fire and rescue services.

Territory duty superintendent Shaun Gill said the building was “well alight” by the time fire and rescue services arrived.

“It initially started in an airconditioning business and it spread to another business, destroying the building and taking two businesses with it,” he said.

Supt Gill said it is currently unknown how the fire was started

“We’ve established a crime scene and investigations will be ongoing to determine the cause of the fire,” he said.
