One of Townsville’s most prominent office buildings is about to welcome a new tenant after striking a sweet deal to give the city centre a sugar hit.
Part of the Australian sugar industry for more than 160 years, Wilmar Sugar is the nation’s largest manufacturer and marketer of raw and refined sugar products, a leader in renewable energy, biofuel and sustainable agricultural products, and a distributor of oleochemicals and other specialty products.
After 17 years in the Townsville CBD on Level 1/5-21 Denham St, Wilmar revealed that it was relocating its office to the River Quays building at 3-17 Tomlins Street, South Townsville – overlooking Ross Creek.
The relocation process was expected to be complete by late February or early March.
River Quays is owned by major Townsville commercial real estate investor Sentinel Property Group, which purchased the asset for $28.6m in December 2017.
In recent times, the high quality of office accommodation has undergone an extensive refurbishment including end of trip facilities, solar installation and upgrades to the entry foyer, airconditioning systems, lift services and roof.
Wilmar inked a 10-year lease for the entire 1780 sqm office space on level 7 and also a lease of 500 sqm on level 5 of the seven-storey building.
Wilmar Sugar and Renewables’ Townsville office manager, John Seedhouse, said the new office would house employees from a range of operational and group support functions as well as staff from Wilmar’s ANZ IT team.
“We are working with commercial fit-out specialists, Growth Workplace Design, to create a functional office space that looks great while also promoting sustainable design,” Mr Seedhouse said.
“The Townsville office team is looking forward to making the move across the bridge and starting the New Year in a fresh location.”
The agreement with Wilmar was negotiated by Sentinel director of leasing Neill Read who said Wilmar was attracted to River Quays due to its prime location close to restaurant, hotel, and apartment precinct, and for having the largest floor plates in Townsville.
“We are delighted that Wilmar has decided to relocate to this fantastic asset. River Quays meets the Commonwealth’s strict quality and environmental, social and governance standards, including a five star National Australian Built Environment Rating System,” Mr Read said.
“Wilmar will join major tenants in the building including Commonwealth departments, New York Stock Exchange-listed AECOM and NASDAQ-listed Concentrix.
“The addition of another prominent tenant at River Quays will help boost activity in the city centre.”
