ONE-YEAR-OLD Aboriginal bubs in Darwin suburbs are more likely to be vaccinated than aboriginal babies living in Palmerston, shows new research.

According to Centre for Disease Control NT’s Disease Control Bulletin, released this week, 100 per cent of Darwin suburbs Aboriginal babies 12-15 months were vaccinated and just 86.96 per cent of Aboriginal babies in Palmerston in the same age group were fully vaccinated.

For non-Aboriginal bub — Darwin City babies were most likely to be vaccinated, and Litchfield babies had the lowest coverage.

In her report, CDC’s Holly McLauchlan said overall the NT coverage was “very similar” to the Australia-wide coverage.

“Specifically children in the NT were more likely to be fully immunised in the 12-15 month age cohort (NT 95.6 per cent coverage) compared to the Australia wide cohort (94.3 per cent coverage),” she said.

“There was little difference in immunisation coverage for the 24-27 month age group.

“The coverage rates for the 60-63 month age group was similar for the NT (94.7 per cent) and Australia wide (95 per cent).”
