Territorians – alongside the rest of the nation – are set to flock to the voting polls in less than a month.

Australians will be asked whether they approve a proposed alteration to the constitution that would recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.

Remote voting in the NT opens on Monday, September 25.

Teams from the Australian Electoral Commission will travel to hundreds of remote communities across the Territory to ensure each Voice is heard in the referendum.

The Territory’s early voting centres open on Monday, October 2.

Referendum day will be held across the country on Saturday, October 14.

Postal vote applications opened on September 11 and close at 6pm, October 11.

The final day for receipt of postal votes is October 27.

The AEC has not confirmed when the voting results will be revealed.

It comes after just 92 per cent of eligible Territorians enrolled to vote, lagging behind the national enrolment rate of 97.5 per cent.

Just 87 per cent of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Territorians have enrolled to vote, though this presents a major improvement since 2017 when Indigenous enrolment sat at just 67 per cent.
