Man killed in suspected hit-and-run on major Perth highway

Police are investigating if a man found dead on a major Perth highway was struck by a car that then drove from the scene.

A man has died in a suspected hit-and-run incident that shut down a major Perth highway for most of the day as police investigated.

A man in his 40s was found with “significant injuries” on Tonkin Highway in Perth’s northeast just before 2.30am on Thursday.

Major Crash Investigators closed the highway for most of the day as they investigated how the man ended up on the road.

“It is believed the deceased man was struck by a vehicle that left the scene,” police said.

“A woman is currently assisting police with their inquiries.”

The northbound stretch of Tonkin Hwy between Morley Dr and Reid Hwy was due to reopen about 4pm, but authorities said congestion remains heavy.

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
