THE “tight budget” of Darwin’s Waratah Football Club could have kept them waiting five years to a decade to complete significant upgrades to its function room.
But those upgrades to its acoustics and ageing bathrooms will likely be finished by the end of July, according to vice-president Steve Kotz.
The footy club is one of 80 not-for-profits that have received funding under the NT Government’s $5 million COVID-19 stimulus grant program.

“Football clubs run on a pretty tight budget … to spend this sort of money we wouldn’t have been able to do it to be honest.,” Mr Kotz said.
The Immediate Work Grants, where not-for-profits are handed $50,000 or up to $100,000 if they chip in funding, aimed to pump money into the community by bolstering tradie jobs just like the highly oversubscribed Home Improvement Scheme and Business Improvement Grant.
“What’s also great about these stimulus measures is that they’re going to help businesses be able to improve to become more productive and also give our wonderful community organisations … the infrastructure upgrades that they need,” Treasurer Nicole Manison said.
The NT Government confirmed 5908 Home Improvement Scheme vouchers totalling $29 million have so far been sent out.
