UAP candidate for Higgins Ingram Spencer arrested for using a carriage service to menace

A candidate for Clive Palmer’s controversial United Australia Party in Melbourne’s south-east has been arrested and held behind bars.

A controversial United Australia Party candidate is behind bars after being arrested for allegedly menacing another person.

The party is yet to disendorse Higgins candidate Ingram Spencer but says it is taking the matter seriously.

The development comes after the Herald Sun this week revealed Mr Spencer had been accused of “aggressive” behaviour and had spread Russian propaganda on social media about the war in Ukraine.

Victoria Police have confirmed that a Malvern man, 38, was arrested over 13 charges including using a carriage service to menace or harass.

He is expected to remain behind bars until his next court hearing on May 5.

A UAP spokesman said: “The party has asked to show cause on why he shouldn’t be suspended”.

The Australian Federal Police were already on alert following allegations about “aggressive” behaviour from Mr Spencer.

The Australian Federal Police were notified of a “disturbance” at the Australian Electoral Commission ballot draw last week after he confronted Liberal MP Katie Allen.

Mr Spencer has also posted QAnon conspiracy theories on social media and a post suggesting the Port Arthur massacre never happened.
