Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers

Trouble-making MP Gabrielle de Vietri is at it again.

The outspoken Greens representative plonked herself down in front of a drilling rig on Friday in an effort to hold up pre-demolition works at the Flemington public housing towers on Racecourse Rd.

In footage posted to social media, police repeatedly asked her to move but she refused to budge.

“Your head has almost hit the machine, now move,” one officer told de Vietri.

After answering back, the officer, clearly losing his patience with her, leant down to her as she sat on the ground to demand that she move on.

But the smiling MP and other protesters continued to ignore more police orders.

“If you’re not going to move, we’re going to have to move you,” another officer said, before de Vietri was hoisted up and led away from the site.

No arrests were made at the protest which occurred during drilling soil sample works.

One activist chained himself by the neck to a machine before being released.

Ms de Vietri later defended her actions, saying the tower residents had been left with “no option” but to ask the MP and her comrades to get involved.

“Residents have repeatedly raised legitimate health and safety concerns with Homes Victoria about pre-demolition works starting while they’re still living in the building, especially for elderly residents and young children, but they’ve been ignored,” she said.

The Source was not surprised to see the Richmond MP in hot water, given her CV which includes a two-day parliamentary ban after posing for a selfie with climate activists who disrupted the chamber.

Last year, she faced calls to resign after she blew off parliament to attend a protest where multiple police were injured, and also appeared to flout new rules banning cyclists from using their phones while riding.
