Teenagers cause havoc at Melbourne Zoo

Masked teenagers shouting vile expletives while threatening a group of security guards have shocked young children and families at Melbourne Zoo on Saturday.

A group of about 10 teenagers, some wearing masks, were filmed abusing four of the zoo’s security officers in a foul-mouthed tirade that was all caught on camera.

A baby was heard crying as the group of bike riders threatened to get physical with the defenceless guards outside the zoo late about 5.30pm on Saturday afternoon.

A witness claimed the group of riders began shouting about how “they wanted to see the hippopotamus and monkeys” before security were forced to intervene.

The four guards then attempted to direct the ticketless riders to leave the area.

“They didn’t like that,” the witness said.

“They were really young.”

The witness said a man attending the zoo with his family tried to encourage the riders to leave the area before one of the crew turned on him.

One masked teenager was heard shouting at that man repeatedly as families queued for a night viewing at the zoo.

“The queue was full of families, babies, young kids, toddlers in prams,” the witness added.

Much of the teenager’s vile tirade cannot be published.

“Walk away you f---en f---ot c---,” one boy was heard saying in the video.

“F---en a-hole … You f---en ginger c---.”

Zoo staff were then forced to rush the awaiting guests inside to ensure their safety as the riders left the scene.

Teenagers cruising around the city on their electric bikes have previously threatened to cause major chaos at several organised riding events.

A large crew of riders are often spoken to by police as they gather near the Yarra River on weekends while others frequent the St Kilda area.
