A second person has been arrested by the homicide squad over the death of a man after a fight at a Greenvale building site.

The arrest of the 58-year-old Taylors Hill man is part of a three-month inquiry into the assault and subsequent death 15 days later of a man involved in an altercation at the residential project on Supreme Avenue at 12.45pm on March 30

Police were called to the worksite that day over reports of fighting and found a 42-year-old Meadow Heights man with facial injuries.

He and a 48-year-old man from Craigieburn, who is believed to be known to the victim, left the scene after talking to the officers.

Just over three hours later, the Meadow Heights man was left at the Northern Hospital in Epping with critical injuries.

Hospital staff told police after concerns were raised about the injuries and they determined another assault had happened after their visit to Supreme Avenue.

The Craigieburn man was arrested and interviewed the next day and released.

On April 15, the injured man died in hospital and the homicide squad took over.

The Taylors Hill man was arrested at his home on Thursday and he was later released pending further inquiries.

“The investigation remains ongoing. Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who may have knowledge about the incident which led to the man’s death and who was involved,” a Victoria Police statement said.
