Sheahan Ink: Gatto, the Melbourne Cup and the $1250 bottle of champagne

Going by social media, Jordan De Goey’s inked-up mate Luke Dyson doesn’t seem to be letting recent charges get in the way of his USA holiday.

Prominent Melbourne figure Mick Gatto was given a taste of Melbourne Cup success at the exclusive Flower Drum restaurant over a high powered lunch.

The owners of Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant were celebrating on an adjacent table to Gatto on Oaks Day.

One of the owners knows Gatto so he took the 2021 Lexus Melbourne Cup trophy to the mediator’s table for a drink and a photo.

And a fly on the wall informed Sheahan Ink it was a very expensive drink too.

The trophy was filled with a 1998 vintage Dom Perignon which Flower Drum tells us is $1250 a bottle.

Gatto was snapped drinking from the cup with his strong right hand clasping the silverware, showing off a very expensive diamond studded silver ring on his right hand, as he signalled to the winning connections giving off a ‘cheers’, which included Brae Solkoski.

“I don’t know him and it just so happens he was on that table behind us,” Sokolski told us.

“He was an absolute gentlemen to be honest and he didn’t want publicity and didn’t ask to be with the cup.

Sokolski said Gatto and lunch buddy Eddie McGuire were “collateral damage” after a photo of the lunch celebrations leaked.

MUMFORD JETS OUT, HOGAN TAKES OFF

Recently retired AFL big man Shane Mumford will spend the next six weeks in London with family while former teammate turned housemate Jesse Hogan moves out.

Mumford, wife Eva and their two kids flew out of Sydney on Tuesday bound for Heathrow where the Mumfords plan on basing themselves with his extended sporting family.

Eva Mumford is the sister of Australian-born British tennis star Johanna Konta who represented the green and gold until 2012 where she thought it better to move to England to further her sporting career.

Mumford called time on his amazing career at the end of the 2021 season. He spent time at three AFL clubs and played 216 games, starting his career at Geelong, winning a premiership with the Sydney Swans, and finishing with seven seasons as a Giant.

Hogan meanwhile has opted to join one of his teammates in Balmain which has a younger feel than the abode he has been living in.

Mumford’s Pagewood home was a good sanctuary for Hogan who enjoyed a successful season with the Giants, his third AFL club.

But now its time the 26-year-old moved out and in with younger teammates with Mumford moving into a coaching role with GWS.

The Mumford’s will return to Sydney just in time for the kids to welcome Santa down the chimney.

BIG HYPE FOR BARRY HALL’S NEXT BOUT

Big bad bustling Barry Hall has been spotted pounding the pavement on Queensland’s Gold Coast in preparation for his next fight.

A fit looking Hall, who just completed the gruelling SAS Celebrity series, is now preparing for the fight of his life, with a potential stoush against NRL heavyweight Sonny Bill Williams.

Australia’s eastern seaboard states are vying to host the highly anticipated fight between the two monsters with Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland event bosses putting in pitches.

Hall played 289 AFL games for St Kilda, Sydney and the Western Bulldogs, while Sonny Bill played 123 NRL games for Canterbury and the Sydney Roosters.

Hall’s boxing record stands at 1 win for 1 draw against Paul Gallen. Williams’ record stands at 8 fights for 8 wins.

WHAT’S BEHIND THE FOOTY FALLOUT?

A big time list manager and an influential AFL player agent are no longer on talking terms.

The high profile mates used to travel the world together, now they don’t even speak.

We wonder why the two popular individuals have found themselves in this mess?

MIAMI GETAWAY FOR DE GOEY’S FRIEND

AFL star Jordan De Goey’s inked-up mate Luke Dyson has taken to Instagram posting that he’s enjoying time in Miami, Florida with a female.

If Dyson is in fact in the exclusive beachside city this may suggest the charges he faces in a Manhattan court on December 8 may not be as serious as first thought, allowing him to leave the state of New York where the alleged crime took place.

Dyson and De Goey will face court for charges relating to an incident at a Chelsea nightclub where a scuffle broke out.

YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS SAYS SYDNEY CELEBRITY MEDIATOR

Radio ratings juggernaut Ben Fordham has successfully mediated the public spat behind Sam Newman’s popular podcast.

Fordham got involved in the fallout between host Newman, co-anchor Don Scott and executive producer turned commentator Rod Law.

Law took umbrage to a label given to him by his co-hosts as well as the editorial direction of the show, but wiser heads prevailed and the former boss of Fox Footy has returned to the chair.

“Law and order has been restored, there is peace at last,” Fordham said, pun intended.

The stand off began five weeks ago when Law decided a guest who was to appear was not to his liking, so he removed himself from the podcast, which is why the Sydney shock jock stepped in to settle the dispute.

“It was another example of the conductor being able to get the orchestra in tune,” Fordham said.

“Sam and Don are both mad and Rod is mad too but not quite as mad. He is able to keep things on track.

“Look, I’m fond of all three of them and I’m just happy my favourite podcast is back.

“I just sent a one text to all three of them and it simply read ‘amazing’.

“I was just threatening to get involved if the boys couldn’t sort out their silly bugger stuff.

“It’s like The Brady Bunch getting back together or The Golden Girls.

“When magic happens you can’t deny it and there’s something very sweet and special about it.

“My only message for the boys is it’s time to get back to work.

“Now is not the time to be popping Champagne corks and doing nudie runs, now it’s time to get back to work and deliver the entertainment to all of their fans.”

Fordham also assured us he would not be edging Scott out of his co-hosting chair, despite Scott’s subtle hints over the past few weeks that the Sydney based host could play a permanent role on the You Cannot Be Serious podcast.

“Don has a job for life as a far as I’m concerned,” Fordham said.

“This might be a new job for me, for me to come in when there is a major union dispute in Victoria, I can come in as a bit of a peacemaker between the parties.

“If Daniel Andrews has any issues to sort out in Victoria he should give me a call as I’ve managed to fix this one in a matter of five weeks.”
