Shane Warne enlisted to help spread the COVID-safe message at the Boxing Day Test

He’s spent many summer days dazzling audiences at the MCG, but Shane Warne will be taking on a different role during this year’s Boxing Day Test.

How to be COVID safe at the Boxing Day Test

Spin king Shane Warne has returned to his beloved MCG to help cricket fans understand the rules they must follow at this months’s Boxing Day Test.

Warne will star in a video played to Aussie and Indian fans, outlining restrictions in place to keep the Test Covid-safe.

The cricket great cleans his statue outside the ground, takes over mowing duties from head curator Matt Page and QR code checks into the MCG on his mobile phone in the message. “Remember, when we return it’s up to all of us to protect the people’s ground,’’ he said.

The Herald Sun last week revealed fans at the Boxing Day Test would be separated into five areas around the ground, separated by fencing and required to stay in their section all day.

Strict bag restrictions will also apply, with no cloaking facilities at the ground and only bags A4 size or smaller, clear or baby pouches that can be stowed under a seat allowed inside the ground.

The MCG will be cashless for the Test, with only credit or debit cards accepted and all tickets will be pre-sold and digital.

Warne said: “It really hasn’t been the same without’’ fans …“welcome back to the mighty MCG.’’

The video will be sent to all ticketholders to the event and will be shared across social media, MCC and cricket websites.
