Quick-thinking worker locks young masked thieves in Rowville Milk Bar

Masked youths have been captured on CCTV storming a milk bar in Melbourne’s southeast to rob the till before a worker disrupted their plans by running to lock them inside the store.

Rowville milk bar robbed by four thugs

Four masked and armed youths who robbed a suburban milk bar for just $200 were locked inside the store thanks to the quick thinking of a brave worker.

CCTV footage captured the crew storming the Rowville Milk Bar on Monday while making demands for money before they reached over and grabbed handfuls of cash from the till.

One of the youths, wielding a knife while wearing a pair of Adidas slides, was seen jumping the counter as one of the terrified workers left the Dandelion Drive store.

From the outside, she locked both the glass door and steel barred security door in an effort to trap the youths while calling police.

They attempted to smash their way out of the store, using some sort of edged weapon, but to no avail.

They then forced the other worker to let them out via a side door and fled before police arrived.

The gang reportedly made off with little more than $200 in cash.

It is the latest in a string of what police are now branding aggravated cigarette burglaries.

Milk bars and petrol stations, particularly in the eastern suburbs, have endured relentless attacks over the past six months.

Scores of armed youths have been filmed stealing hundreds of packs of legal, taxed smokes which are understood to be sold to illicit and dodgy retailers across the city.

It has forced some petrol stations to install makeshift “smoke machines”, which instantly fill the room with smoke, leaving would-be offenders unable to see and running for cover.
