Protester arrested after gluing herself to public gallery and declaring ‘I have come to growl at Jacinta Allan’

Police were called to remove a protester who glued herself to a banister inside the public gallery while yelling and “growling” at the Premier during Question Time.

A woman has been arrested after launching a scathing attack on Jacinta Allan while gluing herself to part of parliament’s public gallery.

In chaotic scenes, the woman stood up and began hurling abuse at the Premier over the government’s adult time for violent crime policy which is expected to pass parliament this week.

Under the proposed laws children as young as 14 could face life sentences for serious aggravated home invasions or aggravated carjackings.

Shortly after Question Time began on Wednesday the woman stood up in the public gallery and began screaming at Ms Allan.

“I have come to growl at Jacinta Allan,” she yelled.

“Jacinta Allan, adult time for adult crime? Disgusting! Despicable!

“Jacinta Allan, adult time for adult crime? Disgusting! A violation of human rights, what type of a woman are you?

“God save the children because nothing will save Jacinta Allan.”

PSOs rushed to the woman who demanded to be left alone.

“I do not have to move, am I under arrest?” she screamed.

The extraordinary outburst forced MPs to leave the Legislative Assembly as authorities tried to work out what to do with the woman.

The woman was seen speaking to police and protective service officers in the public gallery. Her hand was seen glued to the banister as an officer asked her “what kind of glue did you use?”

At least nine police officers assembled while the woman spoke to paramedics in the public gallery.

She was removed from the banister at 3.14pm and shouted at police that she was “feeling harassed” and insisted the officers had violated her rights by taking her phone.

Police told her she was under arrest and marched her out of the gallery at 3.16pm.

The woman was then taken out of parliament and escorted into a police car.

She continued to rant about the government’s crime reform and shouted that Jacinta Allan was on her “list”.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said the 61-year-old Brunswick West woman was being taken to the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

“It is alleged the woman attempted to glue her hand to a chair inside Parliament House on Spring Street about 2.10pm,” the spokesperson said.

“The woman was able to remove her hand from the chair without assistance.”

Premier Jacinta Allan said she would not be deterred by the protester.

“Violent crime is serious. Stunts like these certainly aren’t. They will not deter us one bit,” she said.

“I acknowledge people have different views, but I am listening to victims of crime – that’s why we’re pushing ahead with Adult Time for Violent Crime, so the chance of jail is stronger, and sentences are longer.

“We want Adult Time for Violent Crime in place as soon as possible.

“MPs won’t be leaving Parliament this week until our Bill passes.”
