Police probe suspicious blaze at Preston tobacco shop

A tobacco shop in Melbourne’s northeast has gone up in flames in the latest in a string of suspected arson attacks.

A crime scene has been established after a Preston shop was hit by fire in the latest in a string of suspected arson attacks.

Emergency services responded to reports of a blaze at a High St store about 3.15am on Saturday.

The store was significantly damaged by the fire, and on Saturday morning remained cordoned off with police tape as detectives probe the incident.

A Victoria Police spokesman said an arson chemist and detectives were expected to attend the scene.

“Police will investigate whether the fire is linked to any other recent incidents,” they said.

“Detectives are treating the fire as suspicious and urge any witnesses or anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
