Bollywood stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Tamannaah Bhatia to promote Indian Film Festival Melbourne

These glamorous superstars have 41 million Instagram followers between them and are set to rub shoulders with Melbourne fans.

Bollywood superstars Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Tamannaah Bhatia are coming to Melbourne.

Prabhu and Bhatia will visit as special guests of the Indian Film Festival Melbourne (IFFM) in August. Their involvement will be announced at a VIP launch event on Tuesday.

“With the world opening up, and given the opportunity to travel to Australia to be part of the festival in person, and experience that energy first hand, is something I’m looking forward to,” Prabhu told the Hindustan Times on Monday.

“Celebrating Indian cinema in all its diversity with communities of both Indians and cinema lovers is an exciting feeling.”

Prabhu said she was excited about meeting Melbourne audiences.

“I’m sure interacting with those who love and respect the art of cinema would be a pleasant experience,” she said.

“Film festivals are great common grounds to unify all things we love about going to the movies.”

IFFM runs from August 12 to 20.

Prabhu will various IFFM events from August 12 to 14.

Bhatia, known professionally as Tamannaah, will be a guest judge at the IFFM dance competition at Federation Square on August 13.

Prabhu and Tamannaah, who have 41 million Instagram followers between them, have starred in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi films.

IFFM festival director Mitu Bhowmick Lange said: “After the unprecedented challenges faced over the last few years, we are so excited to bring the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne back to the big screen”.

Dobaaraa, directed by Anurag Kashap, and starring Taapsee Pannu and Pavail Gulati, has been chosen to open the 2022 festival.

Kashap said: “I have previously been to IFFM and have first-hand seen the unison with which Indian films and films from the subcontinent are celebrated and showcased with much vigour.”

IFFM will screen over 100 films in 25 languages in cinemas and online.

IFFM will take over multiple key venues including Federation Square, Arts Centre Melbourne, and the Palais Theatre.
