A man who refused to leave his home had a standoff with armed police in Tullamarine on Sunday night.

Emergency services were called to the property at Tadstan Dr.

Police negotiated with the man before pepper spraying him.

Uniformed and plain clothed police were at the scene, as well as paramedics and Fire Rescue Victoria.

Victoria Police said in a statement the man was refusing to leave his house.

“The man is in the property alone and there is no immediate threat to the community,” the statement said.

Armed police could be seen heading into the property.

A man could be heard yelling from inside the house “I can’t breathe”.

Paramedics were escorted to the front of the house and took the man away in an ambulance.

A neighbour said police used his backyard as part of the operation.

The neighbour who didn’t want to be named said the man involved in the incident had a history of bad behaviour.

“He has threatened me and my other neighbour,” he said.

“Saying ‘come out and I’ll smash ya’ things like that.

“You could just be sitting there and next thing he is banging on your door.

“He threatened my other neighbour just the other night. I just ignore it, try stay out of it all.”
