21-year-old Roxburgh Park man charged over alleged affray at Harmony Cup in Broadmeadows
A 21-year-old man faces multiple charges after allegedly running through the crowd of a community sports event brandishing a machete.
A man allegedly caught brandishing a machete at a rugby competition in Melbourne’s north last month has been hit with a slew of charges by police.
Fans watching on at NRL Victoria’s Harmony Cup were thrown into a frenzy when the masked and armed figure was seen running around Seabrook Reserve in Broadmeadows late on October 24.
Luckily at the time, no one was harmed, but those families and children in the crowd were left shocked by the brazen display.
Now a month on, police have charged a 21-year-old Roxburgh Park man over the alleged affray.
A Victoria Police spokesman confirmed the man was arrested on Friday, and is now facing a slew of charges including two counts of threat to inflict serious injury, possess prohibited weapon, unlawful assault and deal property suspected proceeds of crime.
The man is expected to face court on Saturday.
Footage of the alleged affray captured the moment two men, wearing all black and donning black head coverings, run through the crowd at Seabrook Reserve.
The video captures one of the men armed with a machete, all before the pair fled the scene.
The Harmony Cup is a series of nine-a-side rugby matches to celebrate culture and diversity through Rugby.
