A quiet morning turned into chaos for a Townsville homeowner who woke to a scene resembling a disaster zone after reckless youths in a stolen Range Rover careened through her front yard.
Police are investigating after youths broke into a home on Noyota Street, Burdell and stole a brand new Range Rover around 4.40am on Saturday.
Unable to manoeuvre the car properly, the youths didn’t get far and ploughed it through the front fence and porch of the house across the street.
The youths tried to drive off again but ended up fleeing the scene on foot.
Homeowner Linda Hill said she had been sleeping when they crashed into her property and said the noise had been so loud she thought there had been some kind of gas explosion.
“We have a camera on the front porch so I looked at the monitor and seen all this devastation out the front and I just couldn’t comprehend what had happened,” she said.
“It was just unbelievable — it looked like a bomb had gone off in my front garden.”
“Our front fence isn’t flimsy … it has big stone columns, and they took two of those out before they got to the front porch and hit the concrete support column at the front of the house.”
“I’m just assuming we’re going to have just to use our insurance to pay for the damage. We’ll have to do it quickly because the structural support on the front porch needs fixing.”
“The neighbour’s Range Rover was brand new, and it looks like it’ll be a write off.”
Mrs Hill said she built her house in Burdell in 2017, and crime had become rife in the area.
“It’s just out of control, but luckily, no one was hurt this time,” she said.
Police are asking for witnesses, or anyone with CCTV or dashcam vision is urged to contact police. Investigations are continuing.
