Townsville’s growing legion of iced coffee aficionados will have another reason to wake up in the morning when Annee’s Caphê Sua Da officially opens its third store this Friday.

Established in 2014, Annee’s is Australia’s original Vietnamese iced coffee bar, getting it’s start in Cairns.

Founder Annee Nguyen started to take on Australia’s Italian-dominated coffee scene one drink at a time via farmers markets and slowly won over locals in the humid tropics.

“There was a lot of ‘why cold coffee’, ‘this is too sweet’ or ‘too strong’, so a bit of educating and trust was involved,” Ms Nguyen said.

“But they come back, essentially for the community feel we have. It’s not just the coffee, it’s the experience.”

The new coffee shop is opening in Fairfield Shopping Centre, right across from Coles.

With two shops in Cairns and two in Townsville - the Fairfield location will be the fifth Annee’s store ever.

“We have a lot of really loyal supporters who really follow our brand,” Ms Nguyen said.

“They are demanding more - that’s why we have three (in Townsville) now.”

Ms Nguyen get her idea for Vietnamese coffee in North Queensland while visting the country.

“I’m actually from America and I came here on a working holiday visa in 2014 with my partner, and the business has kept me here,” she said.

“Every Vietnamese family has a little filter in their house. My parents made coffee the

Vietnamese way every morning... but I couldn’t get a job as a barista because I didn’t know how to make traditional coffee.”

Vietnamese coffee is a twist on the American-style ‘drip coffee’, and involves a heavy dose of condensed milk.

So, how do you pronounce Annee’s Caphê Sua Da?

‘Caphe’ means coffee (pronounce it like coffee, but with a fancy accent ‘Caf-ay’), ‘Sue’ means milk, and ‘Da’ means ice - altogther the name means ‘Annee’s iced coffee’.

Annee’s Caphê Sua Da’s grand opening in Fairfield will kick off at 8am, this Friday, September 15.
