Townsville Fire head coach Shannon Seebohm is one of the latest victims of the city’s crime crisis, with masked thieves terrorising his pregnant wife during a chilling home invasion and stealing two cars.

The shocking incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday morning at around 2.15am.

Mr Seebohm’s wife woke up to find a masked intruder entering their home in Townsville through the laundry, after forcing his way in through the garage.

When she screamed at the intruder to leave, the situation took a frightening turn.

Instead of retreating, the masked thief charged at her, forcing her to flee to a bedroom, where she barricaded herself for safety.

Meanwhile, the intruders ransacked the kitchen, seizing all the house keys, including those to the garage.

Despite desperate attempts to scare off the thieves, they eventually managed to steal two of the family’s vehicles.

One of the stolen cars, a Townsville Fire-marked ute, was found ablaze just hours later at the intersection of Wayne Street and Shetland Place in Kelso around 7.30am.

While the other vehicle was later recovered undamaged on Dahl Crescent in Wulguru.

The incident is part of a wider surge in crime over the weekend in Townsville, with multiple break-ins reported across the city.

In another case, police are investigating after a Jaguar E-Pace Wagon, stolen from a Castle Hill property on Saturday night, was found torched in Hermit Park on Sunday.

Meanwhile, thieves dumped and set fire to another stolen car, a grey Mazda BT-50 Dual Cab, outside the Cleveland Youth Detention Centre on John Melton Black Drive on Saturday.

Investigations are ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact police.
