Townsville crime: Police swoop on stolen car, arrest two men in Garbutt

Police swooped in to arrest two men allegedly linked to a stolen car located in Garbutt, with one of them angrily yelling out, “Have some respect,” as he sat in cuffs. It comes as six other cars were stolen in separate incidents this morning.

Police swooped in to arrest two men allegedly linked to a stolen car located in Garbutt, with one of them angrily yelling out, “Have some respect,” as he sat in cuffs.

Police patrolled the streets of Garbutt before eventually arresting two men allegedly linked to a stolen Holden Calais located on Hugh St about 10am on Thursday.

The vehicle was allegedly stolen from an address on Marabou Drive, Annandale on Wednesday.

When police arrived on scene they arrested a man near the vehicle on Hugh St.

As he sat in handcuffs the man yelled at media covering the incident saying “Have some respect! Yeah that’s right.”

Police also located and arrested a second man about 10.43am after searching the streets of Garbutt.

It will be alleged the stolen Holden Calais was involved in a fuel drive off at Wulguru at 12.15am earlier that morning.

It comes as six vehicles were stolen across different locations in Townsville on Thursday morning, including one taken during an armed robbery on Railway Estate.

Police are investigating after a woman had her silver Mercedes stolen by a woman armed with a hammer outside a home on Eleventh St about 8.20am.

Initial investigations indicate the female offender — aged in her early 20s — had broken into a Eleventh St home and had been inside when the Mercedes arrived outside.

A blue Ford ute was stolen from a home on Buchanan St, Mount Louisa between 1.30-1.40am, a grey Mazda CX-5 was stolen from Rangewood between 2-2.15am, a red KIA Rio was stolen from Rassmussen between 12-3.30am, a white Mazda was reported stolen from Douglas about 3.45am and silver Holden Commodore was reported stolen from Mount Louisa after 5.30am.

Investigations are ongoing.
