A motorist escaped serious injury but the same could not be said for his car that was destroyed by fire on The Strand in Townsville on Saturday night.
Queensland Police Service confirmed Townsville Police were investigating the incident on the corner of The Strand and Landsborough Street at 10.06pm.
“Emergency services were called to The Strand just after 10pm to reports a Toyota Corolla was on fire,” he said.
“Upon arrival, the unoccupied vehicle was located well alight; no one was physically injured and the car was not reported stolen.”
The QPS spokesman said “the circumstances surrounding the fire are continuing”.
Queensland Ambulance Service said a male patient with a hand injury had been assessed at the scene but decline transport to hospital.
A QAS spokesperson said Townsville paramedics also responded to an incident involving a collision between a vehicle and a bicycle in Bushland Beach on Saturday night.
“One stable male patient in his 40s with a head injury has been transported to Townsville University Hospital following a vehicle and bicycle incident on Pacific Avenue at 8.28pm.”
