Smoke alert as bushfire burns in The Pinnacles

Residents south of Townsville have been warned to stay indoors as a bushfire in The Pinnacles blankets the area in smoke.

Residents south of Townsville have been warned to stay indoors as a bushfire in The Pinnacles blankets the area in smoke.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services issued a warning for residents to avoid smoke currently affecting Granite Vale, Lake Ross and surrounding areas including Kelso about 9am on Thursday.

The smoke is coming from a bushfire burning in The Pinnacles.

No properties are at risk at this stage and firefighters are on scene observing the bushfire.

Motorists are being advised to avoid driving through smoke if you can and watch out for firefighters working in the area.

Smoke can make it hard for some people to breathe so residents living in those impacted areas are being advised to stay inside, close their windows and doors and keep respiratory medication close by.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said updates will be issued if the situation changes.
