Emergency services had a horror weekend responding to multiple crashes on Townsville roads including one that tragically resulted in a fatality.

The chaos began early on Saturday morning when police were called to a serious incident where a car crashed into a pole along University Drive near the Lavarack Barracks in Douglas.

The Forensic Crash Unit says initial investigations suggest the collision caused the vehicle to catch fire and the sole occupant of the vehicle was sadly located deceased by first responders upon their arrival.

Police are still conducting forensic examinations to identify the victim and are appealing to residents with any information to contact them.

This tragic crash brings the Townsville road toll up to 12 lives lost for the year so far.

Emergency services were kept busy with several more crashes throughout the weekend.

Just before 10pm on Saturday night, a single-vehicle rollover occurred on Graniteville Road in Alice River.

Paramedics rushed a man and woman, both with head injuries, to Townsville University Hospital for treatment.

Shortly after, at around 10.50pm, paramedics responded to another crash in Deeragun, where a woman in her 20s had crashed into a tree at Darling and Veales Roads.

She was taken to the hospital with an arm injury.

A few hours later, just before 1am on Sunday, there was a two-vehicle crash at Brooks Street and Railway Avenue in Railway Estate.

Paramedics transported a stable patient with minor injuries to Townsville University Hospital.
