Farmers were left with empty crates at the end of the day after almost a tonne of pineapples were snapped up by the large crowds that turned out for the 2023 Pineapple Festival.
This years festival was marked a sweet success with long lines of cars seen filling in to find a park at Pace Park in Rollingstone on Saturday morning.
Now in its sixteenth year, the Pineapple Festival continues is the signature event for the Rollingstone community with generations of local families working in the pineapple industry.
Cindy Pace from Pace Farming said the festival was a fantastic day to promote the humble pineapple just as they started to come into their “busiest” time of the year.
“Being able to advertise pineapples at the festival with summer coming up, it’s a great way to start the season,” she said.
This year’s event saw the introduction of the pineapple eating competition as well as free pineapple farm tours.
Lachie Henderson was crowned the winner of the contest after chowing down his container of succulent slices of pineapple in record time.
