Townsville’s best childcare centre has been crowned, with the latest data revealing just nine per cent of local centres have received an excellent rating.
Townsville Central State School After School Care Service in North Ward has been ranked the best centre out of the Townsville region’s 143 listed facilities by childcare app Kindicare – which bases its ratings on official Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) assessments along with online reviews and parent ratings.
The Warburton St facility is one of 13 childcare centres in the region to receive an ‘excellent’ rating, with centre co-ordinator Barbara Wilson attributing much of their success to a “play-based approach” to education and focusing on activities that make the kids happy.
“We’re very open, and when parents come in, we like them to feel welcome so we can have those important conversations to make sure everyone’s on the same page,” she said.
“The kids seem to love it, we have a really good program here based on what kids want to do.
“We focus highly on trying to make them happy with what they like to do.”
She said the centre’s group of dedicated educators always try to take a positive and collaborative approach to getting things done.
Just 351 childcare centres of more than 3000 across Queensland achieved an “excellent” rating from Kindicare.
Meanwhile, 1100 centres were rated “very good”, 1178 were rated “good”, and 309 were rated “fair”.
