Frosty Mango has begun quietly expanding outside its Bruce Hwy store, ‘soft launching’ four freezers stacked with a brand new product in Townsville.
The freezers are marked with new mango character ‘Manny’ who is the face of the product line.
Frosty Mango Wholesale CEO Tom Freeland is spearheading this new way of selling the North Queensland ice cream, and says the Crystal Creek-adjacent store tourists know and love will remain an ‘artisan’ location, separate from the tubs.
“Now that we’re starting to get Frosty Mango into the rest of Queensland, we’re going to be getting more flavours and - I don’t want to share too much right now, but it’s exciting,” Mr Freeland said.
“Manny is Mango Man’s son. We created him because Frosty Mango has been about family and fun since 1989 and we want to keep it classic.”
The ice cream tubs can be found at Otto’s Warrina and the Otto’s Precinct in Idalia, alongside Pizza Riveria’s Heatly and Hermit Park stores.
“I chose Otto’s as the soft launch location because they have a focus on absolute quality,” Mr Freeland said.
“It takes a thousand hours of sunshine to make a mango, and we don’t take any shortcuts.”
The freezers were installed on June 25, and are currently stocking the original mango flavour.
Mr Freeland said there are plans in the works for a coconut flavour and other tubs sizes soon.
Frosty Mango’s 82-year-old owner Alf Poefinger put the business and its orchards up for sale in 2022.
The business is now owned by Mick Waters.
