Helping to ease pressure on the hip pocket for NQ residents, a family-owned business has reaffirmed its commitment to the community with an ambitious expansion at one of Townsville newest high-exposure business hubs – Fairfield Business Precinct.

The MAMS Group has operated a Containers for Change facility in the Idalia precinct since June 2022, in addition to its container return points in Innisfail, Tully, and Ingham.

MAMS Group business manager Louise Lannen popped the champagne in November to celebrate the purchase of an adjoining block in the precinct, paving the way for an expansion of their Containers for Change operation.

“We’re a family business. My mum has passed on her passion for recycling to me. She was instrumental in implementing recycling in our community. Now that we have Containers for Change, I want to pass on that passion onto our children,” Ms Lannen said.

“Container recycling gives businesses and everyday people an opportunity to support charities close to their heart.

“We have one community group that has raised more than $22,000 in 12 months. You can really see that it’s making a difference.”

Ms Lannen said there were several factors behind their decision to begin construction this year in the Fairfield Business Precinct, including exposure to passing traffic and the opportunity to custom build.

“We could not be happier with how Containers for Change has performed here in Fairfield Business Precinct. We have recently been able to accept wine and spirit bottles at 10 cents per bottle, this will increase demand again also,” she said.

“The take-up has been incredible. We have a great team and have now purchased more land to streamline the operations of our growing business.

“The experience of the developer, the professionalism of C&B Designs, Milford Planning, and builder Formset, meant building Containers for Change in Fairfield was a seamless reality.”

Ingenta marketing and administration manager Danielle Eastlake said the Fairfield Business Precinct was “bustling” after growing from nothing in 2014 to having a Liberty Fuel, Fairfield Car Wash, Reece, Beaurepaires. MAMS Group, and Ausnorth.

She said there were freehold and leasehold opportunities available, with expressions of interest being sought for a modern high clearance office warehouse hosting five separate commercial warehouses, with construction expected to complete in April.

“The Fairfield Business Precinct is part of the Fairfield Business Community, established in 2011 and sits next to Fairfield & Co with 18 established businesses and the Fairfield Shopping Centre with 60 established retail shops,” Ms Eastlake said.

The Fairfield Business Community is experiencing tremendous growth with new businesses popping up like Fitstop, KFC, Lighten Up Yoga, World Gym, Guzman y Gomez, while AEIOU’s purpose-built centre for autism early intervention services, a Children First Early Education Centre, and Fairfield Central Tavern were coming soon.
