Logie awards 2023 winners: Harriet Dyer, Rhiannon Anderson among winners

Two Townsville identities were up in lights at the Logie awards, with some surprising laughs — and tears — in both speeches, including a dedication to new parents.

A nipple flash, toilet humour taken all too literally and a scene featuring a bedside drawer mistaken for the loo — it’s no wonder Townsville’s Harriet Dyer looked shell-shocked when she won a Logie award.

But for anyone who’s watched Colin From Accounts, it was well deserved, with the Binge comedy a triple winner at Sunday night’s TV awards ceremony.

The North Queensland actress — a Townsville Grammar graduate — was humble when taking the Logies stage when she was announced Most Outstanding Actress.

“Hello, oh dear. Wow. I don’t condone gambling, I find it abhorrent and vile. But my parents have been watching the odds for this. And I wasn’t it,” Dyer said to laughs from the audience.

“In the first episode-and-a-half of Colin, I flashed my nipple, threw a turd out the window, and peed in a bedroom drawer. Anyway, the people have spoken, I guess.”

Dyer paid tribute to her husband, fellow actor and co-creator of Colin From Accounts, Patrick Brammall.

“He’s the best. He made me sit down and write this, probably because I was being annoying in the house,” she said.

“If anyone could find a partner half as amazing as him, then you are going to have a great life.”

She finished her speech with a shout out to all new mums and dads who go back to work after having kids, with the couple’s daughter Joni just four-and-a-half months old when they began shooting the show.

“It is scary, but you can do it. Do it all, and then you can look back and show them you did it, and then they can do it too,” she said.

Dyer also thanked her production staff, which also includes another Townsvillian — her sister Madeleine Dyer who was a director on the show.

Colin From Accounts won the first gong for the evening: Most Outstanding Comedy, and Brammall later won Most Outstanding Actor.

Another Townsville identity also graced the Logies stage on Sunday, with MasterChef 2023 runner-up Rhiannon Anderson joining her fellow castmates and judge Melissa Leong to accept the award for Most Popular Reality Program.

The North Queensland chef was emotional when the award was dedicated to judge Jock Zonfrillo, who died suddenly on the eve of the 2023 season.

“Thank you so much to our incredible cast for constantly pouring out your hearts and souls and showing us who you are on the plate every single time,” she said, her voice wavering.

“And thank you so much for the audience for sticking with us, through thick and thin. “Especially in the year that we’ve had.”

As the cast hugged Leong, MasterChef’s executive producer Marty Benson said it was “still hard to believe that my mate and our amazing judge Jock is no longer with us”.

“So, big man, this is 100 per cent dedicated to you,” Benson said.

“Tonight we are going to celebrate Jock-style. Please, everybody, give it up for Jock Zonfrillo.”
