Set to take over the top role as principal of St Patrick’s College in 2025, a Brisbane educator is ready to make the move to Townsville.

Currently serving as the deputy principal of teaching and learning at Mount Alvernia College in Brisbane, Kathleen Little has more than ten years of leadership experience within independent schools.

Saying the new role was a “huge responsibility”, Ms Little said she was also thrilled and honoured to be entrusted in “such an important role”.

“It’s such a wonderful school, with such a rich history,”she said.

“It’s a really exciting journey.”

Having previously been Townsville to visit relatives, Ms Little said the location had been on her radar for a while and that she was impressed by the school, which has been at The Strand since 1878.

“It has such a prominent position on The Strand, with the beautiful seaside, picturesque views,” she said.

Ms Little will be taking over the role from current principal Amber Hauff, who has been principal since 2020 after previously serving as deputy principal for four years.

Ms Hauff was announced as the new principal of St Patrick’s College Shorncliffe in Brisbane to start in 2025, with Ms Little chosen as her replacement after a recruitment process.

Ms Little said it was rewarding working in education leadership, being able to see students grow and achieve their potential.

“Education has the power to transform lives and I think all communities, whether they are metropolitan or regional, deserve outstanding educators and outstanding education services,” she said.

“As a principal you have an opportunity to empower growth for a whole community and certainly for the staff, student and parent community. It’s a huge role and when you see people become their best selves, its tremendously gratifying.”
