In a statement, North West Hospital and Health Service (HHS) said a new medical officer had been appointed to the outback town and they were due to start in mid-August, just in time for tourists to flock to the small centre for the Dirt n Dust Festival.
The news comes as neighbouring Cloncurry continues their search for a GP.
“Over the past few months, the medical workforce team has worked diligently to ensure there is no interruption to healthcare services in Julia Creek, with remote relievers and locums arranged to provide ongoing services until the new GP starts,” a North West HHS spokesperson said.
“The recruitment process attracted a very strong field of applicants and we are confident the successful candidate will be a great fit for the community.”
Julia Creek has spent a decade struggling to attract and retain medical expertise in their town.
In 2022 Julia Creek made national headlines when they offered a $500,000 salary for any qualified doctor willing to relocate.
