An Australian reality television star has been announced as the temporary replacement for Triple M Townsville radio host Annabelle “AB” Brett who is heading off on maternity leave to have her first child.

The station confirmed on Friday that author and television presenter Jess Eva would join Elliott Lovejoy on The Rush Hour Queensland Drive show for the rest of 2024.

AB said it was “bittersweet to be taking time off from the best job in the world” as of Monday.

“But I am feeling so excited and supported by my amazing team while I undertake this new journey.”

She said the station, owned by Southern Cross Austereo, had a paid parental leave policy that allowed her to transition seamlessly to the next state of her life.

Ms Brett said Jess – a contestant on ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!’ in 2021 and winner of The Block with husband Norm in 2018 – was someone she had admired for a number of years and was proud to call her a friend and mentor.

“To have someone of her calibre joining the show while I’m away is a dream come true for the team and for our amazing listeners,” she said.

“I look forward to returning in 2025 following some special time with my family and a Brisbane Broncos and Lions Premiership of course.”

Jess is no stranger to Triple M having co-hosted the Sydney Breakfast with MG and Chris Page from 2019 until 2022.

“I’m thrilled to be back on Triple M and can’t wait to catch up with Elliott and all The Rush Hour listeners,” she said.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun with my old North Queensland people again.”
