Jennifer Board Memorial Ride held to honour life of killed motorbike rider

One of the things Jennifer Board never got to do is being turned into an event in her honour, on what would have been the week of her 24th birthday.

A CHARITY ride will be held in honour of Jennifer Board, an event the budding motorcyclist tragically never got to take part in.

On the week that would have been her 24th birthday friends will take to the streets to remember the young rider, who had only held her licence for a few months, when she was killed on February 5, 2021.

Ms Board was killed while riding her motorcycle on Ross River Rd.

The alleged driver of a Holden Statesman had allegedly rammed the rear of a stolen car, lost control, and veered across into her path.

The alleged driver, Christopher Hughes, has been charged with her murder.

Ms Board had wanted to participate in a ride, but her tragic death had snuffed out her chance, with a ride in her name now taking place on May 29.

Among the organisers is former police officer Brett Geiszler, who wants to keep Ms Board’s memory alive.

“Getting past the 12 month anniversary of her death was a milestone, and her birthday seemed like the perfect time,” he said.

“It’s a chance for us to keep her, and the circumstances of her death, in the public eye.

“The ongoing crime is still rampant in Townsville.”

Ms Board’s death brought a deep sadness to the community, but also pushed the state government to change laws around youth bail.

Mr Geiszler said he hoped The Jennifer Board Memorial Ride would become an annual way of remembering the aspiring police officer.

Riders are invited to meet at Weir State School at 7am on May 28 before riding to Herveys Range Heritage Tea Rooms.

A gold coin donation is encouraged with all proceeds being donated to the Brighter Lives Townsville Hospital Foundation, which was a cause close to Ms Board’s heart.
