Inmate dies inside cell at Townsville Correctional Centre

A man facing historical child sex charges has been found dead in his cell at Townsville Correctional Centre.
Sagee Paul Mabo, who appeared in court last year facing multiple charges, was found dead about 7am on Wednesday. He was being held in custody while he awaited trial.
Queensland Corrective Services said officers immediately commenced CPR.
“Queensland Ambulance Service attended, however the man was unable to be revived and was pronounced deceased,” QCS said in a statement.
“As per normal process, a full internal investigation will be conducted and Queensland Corrective Services will assist police in preparing a report for the Coroner.
“Our condolences go to the man’s family and community.
“Support is being offered to the responding officers and their colleagues.”
All deaths in custody are required by law to be investigated by the coroner.
Mabo’s charges included 15 counts of indecent treatment of children under 16 child under 12 years, one count of indecent treatment of child under 16 (expose) child under 12 years, five counts of rape and one count of possess tainted property.
