More than 35 instructors are in the running to win Townsville’s best swimming teacher for the year. See who made the shortlist and cast your official vote here.

Known for its blistering sun and many swimming holes, it’s no wonder North Queensland is filled with so many amazing swimming instructors, to ensure kids are set up with the correct skills to battle the backyard pool or ocean as they get older.

We asked for residents to nominate their favourite teacher in Townsville, and many delivered throwing more than 30 names in the ring.

Some of the nominations and comments included:

“Rebecca Mackereth from Fish n Flips Riverside Gardens. After my son accidentally fell in the pool while playing, he developed a fear for pools and water,” Rhiannon Richardson said.

“He would just refuse to get in and would cry every time we tried to get him in. Miss Bec worked with him one-on-one gaining his trust until he was confident enough to swim in a regular swim class. Now he is the most confident swimmer in the class and we can’t get him out of the water.”

Samantha Hudson nominated Glenn Buchanan and said the team was hands down “the best”.

“They have helped my children so much!” she said.

“Now they are more informed on water safety and proper swimming! I would recommend them over and over to anyone that may ask. Patient, kind and so understanding, they definitely deserve this.”

Kylie’s Swim School was also nominated.

“Surely you wouldn’t go past Miss Kylie at Kylie’s Swim School!” Shelly commented.

“Kylie is an extremely knowledgeable, welcoming and compassionate teacher. Not only does she develop a close bond with each student she connects with the families as well.”
