Townsville’s favourite one-of-his-kind handyman, Joshua Gaw, has received a free HiLux from Mike Carney Toyota.
The 20-year-old has been running his odd jobs business Jobs4Josh since he was 13, specialising in green waste removal and rubbish tip runs.
The Northern Beaches resident was born with low functioning autism and intellectual disabilities, making regular employment incredibly difficult to find.
Joshua said he was very excited to receive the new work ute and pointed out green waste jobs were his favourite – so anyone with a pile of palm fronds sitting around should make note of his business number.
Joshua’s father Darin Gaw said his son has always shown a great work ethic.
“He’s a good example, even to normal kids, about what you can do with hard work,” Mr Gaw said.
“You just point him at something and he’ll go for it. Before this we were using my old ’07 HiLux which has about 400,000kms on it now.”
The Gaws admitted to being a ‘Toyota family’, which made the gift a perfect match.
Sarah Major from Mike Carney Toyota said staff took notice when the family came in looking at vehicles to buy.
“We’ve all seen them working around town and one day they came in looking for a vehicle and this was created by the Toyota team,” Ms Major said.
Joshua doesn’t have a license, but he was still ecstatic about the vehicle which would allow him to work more jobs per week with either a family member or carer in tow.
