Former Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill will nominate for a Labor Senate seat, saying the party needs to stop putting up career politicians.
Mrs Hill, who lost the mayoral election this year to Troy Thompson, has told the Australian she will made a bid for the Senate at the next federal election.
After 12 years as Townsville Mayor, Mrs Hill has revealed she will nominate for the Right faction’s No.2 position days after it was revealed former state tourism minister Kate Jones may be vying for the seat.
“The reality is the Labor vote is dropping and it’s dropping because we keep putting career politicians into positions whose whole lives are based out of CBDs in capital cities,” Mrs Hill told the Australian.
Mrs Hill made a career out of fighting for the regions, and speaking out against the Labor Party when she felt it was necessary.
It’s been said she lost the mayoral vote due to an anit-Labor sentiment that had been brewing in the North in response to the state government’s lack of action on youth crime.
The issue dominated the local government election, despite it not being within the council’s control.
