An exclusion zone has been set up in Bohle as emergency services clean up a chemical spill after a 500-litre barrel of corrosive liquid was punctured late Thursday night.
A 50-metre exclusion zone on Everett Street in Bohle is in place after a chemical barrel on a truck was punctured, causing what the Queensland Fire Department has called a “slow leak” of the chemical sodium thiophosphate.
Fire services first attended around midnight on Thursday night alongside Queensland Ambulance and Police services.
The warehouse where the truck was located was promptly evacuated, and no injuries were caused.
Sodium Thiophosphate can cause skin irritation and burns if it comes into contact with skin and can also cause severe eye damage or respiratory irritation.
A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said crews are currently attempting to absorb the chemical with soda ash, a white powder which is commonly used in neutralising acid spills.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the road will be closed while the spill is contained.
More to come.
