Euramo Hotel: Flooded inland watering hole turned into ‘yacht club’

When the Tully and Murray overflow, there’s only one place to go. See inside the ‘bucket list’ North Queensland hotel that turns into an inland ‘yacht club’ when flood waters rise. SEE THE VIDEO, PICTURES

Floods have turned a FNQ pub into a yacht club

With the Tully River on one side, and the Murray on the other, Euramo Hotel turns into a boat-only attraction when the flood waters rise in North Queensland, and a right of passage for locals.

They cheekily call the inland watering hole the Euramo Yacht Club, owner Ollie Muzic said, and locals jump in their dinghies and head straight to the ‘Mo from home.

“Mo on a Boat. It’s just on everyone’s bucket list.”

Drone footage, captured on site by Tori England, shows a raucous flood party on Sunday, with water lapping at the doors but everyone staying dry, and hydrated with ice-cold beers.

But boats wash up from all around them too from mystery locations, Ms Muzic said, as she laughed about the 18-odd vessels that arrived at their doors yesterday.

“The boats come from everywhere, we have no idea where they’ve actually come from.”

Inside the hotel is a wall of history, capturing the impact of floods all the way back to the 1960s.

Mrs Muzic has now owned the hotel for two years, and said this is the worst flooding she’s seen. After a fun flood party yesterday, they’ll spend the day cleaning up verandas and mopping floors.

The water is now too shallow for boats to make the crossing, and roads to the hotel remain closed.
