An emotional Jake Granville shed a few tears as he was added to the Cowboys’ Wall of Honour, a recognition reserved for players who have changed the trajectory of the club.
The honour comes as the 35-year-old hooker prepares to depart the club at the end of the 2024 season.
In his time with the Cowboys, Granville has made over 200 appearances and cemented his status as an icon of the club.
“So grateful to be part of such a great club,” Granville said during the unveiling on Wednesday.
“Bit of a surprise to be recognised like this, so thank you guys very much. It’s just been an awesome ride, and I’m so thankful to be a part of this group right now and all the groups previous. Some lifelong friends and so many great memories here. It’s a big part of my life, part of my kids’ life and my wife Zoe.
“Yeah, the club and the region, it’s home. It feels like home.”
Granville was visibly moved as he spoke about joining the ranks of the club’s legends on the Wall of Honour.
“To be among these guys … it’s bloody crazy. I’ve always looked up to most of these guys playing and Bear (Paul Bowman) … It’s very special.”
Granville joins the esteemed company of Cowboys greats like Michael Morgan, Scott Bolton, Gavin Cooper, Johnathan Thurston, and Matthew Scott.
Head Coach Todd Payten praised Granville’s influence, saying, “He’s going go up on the wall and look over us for the rest of time.“
The Wall of Honour was introduced five years ago when the Cowboys Centre of Excellence was built and club stalwart Peter Parr was tasked with selecting players who had significantly shaped the club’s history.
As a final gesture of appreciation, a lap of honour will be held for Granville before the Cowboys’ game against the Melbourne Storm at Country Bank Stadium on Thursday night at 7.25pm.
