Fears about the future of golfing apparel business ‘The Players Club’ spearheaded by a prominent Cowboys trio have been put at ease after Chad Townsend reassured fans his move to Sydney next year won’t impact the collab.

Townsend alongside Valentine Holmes and Scott Drinkwater launched their joint business venture ‘The Players Club’ late last year and witnessed its growing popularity with collections selling out in days.

“It was kind of built on the back of when I first moved to Townsville,” Townsend said.

“All of us boys kind of bonded and connected through golf. We would go and play once a week and we would obviously talk about buying some new polos and hats and stuff for hold and there we were like ‘why don’t we just make our own?’”

The website features various collections of polos, jumpers, T-shirts, hats and other accessories designed and modelled by the North Queensland trio.

The recent announcement of Townsend’s move to the Sydney Roosters in 2025 had left some doubt about the business’s next move, but the players have assured customers that nothing will change.

“We started this with a long term outlook. I’ve made the decision to move back to Sydney next year and the boys are still contracted up here at the Cowboys and a lot of people ask us ‘what’s going to happen?’ But it’s business as usual,” Townsend said.

“The ideal situation would be that once we all finish playing football that we can all work in the business and run it together. That’s kind of the long term goal.”

The Player’s Club recently partnered with prominent golf product business TaylorMade Golf Company with the opportunity to showcase the high quality golf clubs in their promotional online content.

“We’re rugby league athletes but we also love golf and we felt like with our leverage that we have in sports and the name that we’ve created for ourselves as individuals, that we could help promote their brand,” Townsend said.

“In some of the videos we’ve posted since we’ve announced this partnership we’ve already had some incredible reach and the feedback has been incredible so there’s a lot of good things coming, it’s only just the start.”
