A new sports bar lounge and expanded merchandise shop are set to wow fans at the Cowboys Leagues Club in Townsville.

The expansion is occurring after The Coffee Club last month opted not to renew a lease on a large tenancy in the club fronting Flinders St.

The club’s general manager, Clint Williams, said the extra space created by the vacancy would fix two issues at once.

The club will move the Cowboys Team Shop into the former Coffee Club tenancy, while the area used for the team shop will be used to expand the sports bar by creating a sports lounge.

The lounge will provide as many as 20 screens to watch sports from around the world.

“We need a bigger shop. We are moving it into the Coffee Club tenancy to give it a better street presence,” Mr Williams said.

“We are doing an expansion of the sports bar and creating a sports lounge where the current team shop is. We will have a lot of big screens which will give us somewhere to show sports from all over the world,” Mr Williams said.

The Cowboys Leagues Club is expanding its merchandise shop and sports bar lounge.

“There are a lot of American sports and EPL we want to screen. If you are coming into the club and your team is playing, you will be able to watch it here. We want to make it so that no matter where you are sitting you are able to watch the sport you want to watch.”

The club is planning four big 180 inch (4.5m) screens, which can be used as one larger screen, and another 15 to 20 100 inch (2.5m) screens.

The club has undertaken two big redevelopments in 2015 and 2017 costing more than $12m.

The merchandise shop was opened in 2015 — the same year the Cowboys won the NRL premiership.

While the Cowboys are having another stellar year, boosting merchandise sales, Mr Williams said sales had grown every year since the opening.

“We are very lucky that win or lose our fans are very passionate. But it definitely helps when the guys are winning,” Mr Williams said.

The club hopes to have the new shop open in time for Christmas, possibly by the end of November, and have the sports lounge open early in the new year.
