More than 100 young cadets from across North Queensland recently descended upon Townsville’s PCYC, eager to showcase the hard-earned skills they’ve honed throughout the year.
Fourteen teams, including cadets from PCYC Queensland Emergency Services, Surf Life Saving Queensland, the Australian Navy, and the Royal Australian Air Force, competed in the Townsville Cadet Games 2024 last Friday.
The event was a vibrant showcase of talent, featuring a variety of challenges designed to test the cadets’ physical abilities, strategic thinking, and collaborative spirit.
Highlights of the games included team challenges, first aid drills, drill competitions, and memory exercises.
These activities are based on the skills the cadets have learned throughout the year, such as radio communications, following instructions, situational awareness, and first aid.
Townsville Chief Inspector Damien Crosby lauded the program as an effective collaboration that promotes healthier and safer communities through integrity, value, and respect.
“It’s been fantastic to witness the teamwork and camaraderie on display here today, which are values highly regarded by the QPS,” he said.
“(It) is a celebration as much as it is a competition. Let us celebrate the skills, strengths and spirit of all these cadets.”
Chief Inspector Crosby also highlighted the strong support and partnerships between PCYC Queensland and multiple emergency services and support organisations, stating, “The Cadet Games are made possible through strong support and partnerships between PCYC Queensland and multiple emergency services and support organisations.
“In collaboration with PCYC Queensland, the QPS is proud to support cadets across the state, and we look forward to continuing this supportive relationship well into the future.”
