Northern Legacy is continuing to build business partnerships to help its beneficiaries in need ahead of Legacy Week in September.

With a strong Veteran base physiotherapy group Health First is the latest business recruit to sign up to help Legacy.

Northern Legacy CEO Nicole Hayes said as a self-funded organisation Legacy was reliant on support from the community.

“Having the support of a local business, in the long term, is really important to us not just financially but also as part of building our legacy community and providing better services to our beneficiaries,” she said.

“The partners and the children of veterans who have given their health and their life in service of our country, and they deserve to have the best services possible provided.”

She said Health First would be able to give its beneficiaries vital health information.

“The added value that Health First are also going to provide to us is that they will provide information and encouragement to our beneficiaries around health and healthy lifestyles and exercise and the importance of that, particularly as we grow older.”

Health First director Billy Henningsen said in a garrison city such as Townsville a large percentage of their client base were Veterans.

“Over the last few years, we’ve had the privilege to meet a lot of veterans and help rehabilitate them physically, but also mentally,” he said.

“So we’ve built quite a big community of veterans and I guess through meeting them and working with them day in day out, we got to understand some of their hardships post serving with the ADF.

“When we got this opportunity to be a part of an organisation like Legacy, where we’re contributing to the families of Veterans – it was just a no-brainer for us.”

He said Health First would become a regular contributor to the Northern Legacy newsletter.

“Every edition will do something different but it will be around exercise and health and rehabilitation,” he said.

Ms Hayes said they were already gearing up for busy Legacy Week in September.

“Legacy Appeal Week is the most important fundraiser that we do every year. It’s been running for probably almost 100 years. It’s done across the country.

“We are really lucky in that we’re having 18 sites in North Queensland this year. They will be available what they’ll be running into shopping centres from Monday the second of September to Friday, the sixth of September.

“We encourage our community to come along and have a chat to our soldiers and the aviators who will be manning those stalls and to purchase a badge or bear in support of Legacy.”
