Black cat adoption fees slashed for Friday the 13th

Adoption fees have been slashed for more than 15 black cats who are still waiting to find homes at the Townsville Animal Care and Adoption Centre thanks to old superstitions branding them as bad luck.

With Friday the 13th just days away, more than 15 black cats at the Townsville Animal Care and Adoption Centre are crying out for new homes.

Superstitions continue to deter potential adopters, but Townsville City Council is offering a special deal — black cats and kittens will be available for just $50 this Friday and Saturday.

Deputy Mayor Paul Jacob said the “lucky black cat sale” is designed to help these often overlooked pets find the love they deserve.

“Some people are quite superstitious when it comes to black cats, so there are great cats and kittens that aren’t being taken home because some people still believe they are a symbol for bad luck,” Cr Jacob said.

“While the superstitions simply aren’t true, we want to do everything in our power to get these animals adopted and into loving homes.”

The black cat sale, which runs for two days, offers a great deal on cats that are desexed, wormed, microchipped, and have had their first vaccinations.

Cr Jacob emphasised that all the cats at the centre are happy and healthy, just waiting for their forever homes.
