Investigators are probing the circumstances surrounding a horror quad-bike accident that has left a Townsville man fighting for his life.

Queensland Police Service confirmed on Tuesday that the Forensic Crash Unit (FCU) from Townsville Police was investigating the accident at Balgal Beach at 9.54pm on Sunday night.

The man, aged 44, suffered serious head injuries in the incident on a private property in Northern Beaches.

Queensland Ambulance Service said the victim was flown by Queensland Government Air (QGAir) rescue helicopter to Townsville University Hospital in a critical condition.

Townsville Health and Hospital Service said on Tuesday that condition had not changed

This comes after a farmer is understood to have found the body of his son who died in a horror quad bike accident on a rural Burdekin property just a week ago.
